Cymbals and the top of a singer's range come through clean and precise. A patented 25mm Carbon Dome tweeter sits in its own housing on top of the cabinet, the Tweeter-on-Top design.

Continuum Cone from the 800 Series Diamond

Voices sound natural, and guitars and pianos keep their texture. A 165mm (6.5 inch) Continuum cone carries the voices and everything below them, the same cone used in the 800 Series Diamond range. The low notes reach all the way down to 25Hz.

125 Watts Built In

The Formation Duo powers itself, so it plays as a full system from the start. A 125 watt digital amplifier sits inside the cabinet, alongside the digital signal processing and Dynamic EQ.

Hi-Res Streaming Over Wi-Fi or Ethernet

Music reaches the Formation Duo straight from the services you already listen to. Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Roon Ready are all built in. Bluetooth covers whatever else is on your phone, with aptX HD, AAC and SBC on board.

Formation Wireless Technology

More Formation speakers can join later, and every room plays together. Formation Wireless Technology links Formation speakers over a connection of their own.

One App for the Whole System

The Bowers & Wilkins Home app runs the Formation Duo from your phone, and anything you add later shows up on the same screen.

A Wired Option on the Back

The Formation Duo takes a network cable at the back, so it can run wired from your router or on Wi-Fi, whichever suits the room.

Bowers & Wilkins Formation Duo FAQ

▸ Is the Formation Duo sold as a single speaker?

Yes. This listing is one Formation Duo speaker, finished in black. Two of them make a left and a right, and Bowers & Wilkins designed the Formation Duo to be used that way, so a second one can join it later.

▸ Does the Formation Duo come with a stand?

Stands are sold on their own, so you can set the height you want. The Formation Duo is equally at home on a shelf, and it likes a bit of breathing room behind the cabinet, around 0.5m (1.6 ft).

▸ Does the Formation Duo need a separate amplifier or receiver?

No. A 125 watt digital amplifier is built into the speaker, so it runs on its own with nothing else in the chain.

▸ Which app do I need to set up the Formation Duo?

The Bowers & Wilkins Home app. It brings the speaker onto your home network and controls what plays in each room, and any other Formation speakers in the house join the same screen.

▸ How does the Formation Duo connect to my network?

Over Wi-Fi, or with an Ethernet cable into the socket on the back of the speaker. Both routes carry music from the streaming services built in, including Roon Ready, Spotify Connect and Apple AirPlay 2.

▸ Can I stream to the Formation Duo from an iPhone or iPad?

Yes. Apple AirPlay 2 is built in, so anything playing on an iPhone, iPad or Mac goes straight to the speaker. Bluetooth handles anything else you want to play from a phone or tablet.

▸ How big is the Formation Duo and what does it weigh?

The Formation Duo measures 395mm high, 197mm wide and 305mm deep, which is 15.6 by 7.8 by 12 inches, and weighs 10.6kg (23.4 lb).
